HelpMap – Berlin-based startup develops digital solution for neighborhood aid in disaster situations
With HelpMap, a young startup from Berlin introduces a digital mapping solution that enables fast and coordinated neighborhood assistance in the event of a disaster – especially after flooding.
The idea for HelpMap originated in the summer of 2024, when the Spanish region of Valencia was hit by severe flooding. Within just a few hours, a makeshift online map was created to make requests for help and available support visible. Building on this principle, founder Daniel Schönherr developed the concept into a professional, ready-to-use web application.
HelpMap immediately shows, after a flood, who needs help and who can provide it – all on an easy-to-use map. This way, neighborhood aid and civic engagement become visible, while municipalities keep an overview and can centrally coordinate relief measures.
HelpMap is currently in close discussions with several flood-prone regions in Germany to launch pilot projects. The goal is to provide municipalities with a tool that can be deployed immediately during future disasters and help save valuable time.
The solution is being offered at an introductory price of €990 per year, making it especially accessible to small and medium-sized municipalities without requiring significant setup effort.
On October 1, 2025, HelpMap will make its first public appearance at the Smart Country Convention (SCCON25) in Berlin. Visitors will be able to experience the solution live at the booth, talk to the founder, and sign up for pilot projects.
